Supporting Africa’s First Coding School For Girls

Soronko Academy is a social enterprise that provides young people, especially women and girls, with skills to help prepare them for the future of work, bridge the gender gap in technology and become economically independent.

Djembe was tasked to develop a new website and implement a tailored media campaign, targeted at top-tier pan-African media houses to increase grant support, drive student enrolment and build on founder and CEO’s profile in the media.

Djembe leveraged key journalist relationships to place strategic articles covering women empowerment though tech skills, the importance of soft skills in training and the future of work, specifically for women. Media relations also included dissemination of press releases covering the Academy’s partnerships, in particular with the Mastercard Foundation.

Strategic Execution by Djembe

  • Harnessed the strength of the clients offering through revised messaging, highlighting the timeliness and opportunity of preparing young women for a career in STEM in the 21st century workplace
  • Full design and build of new website to utilise repositioned messaging and client offering
  • Pitched to pan-African and international media to build the profile of both the founder of Soronko Academy and its work to encourage international applicants
  • Further introductions to local media for profile opportunities to build local awareness and ultimately drive enrolment in programs at the Soronko Academy
